Make sure that everyone here makes plans to come up to Bentonville Ar for the 2nd annual Slaughter Pen Jam. The race takes place the weekend of Nov 6-8.
This year we will have all classes of XC Race, Observed Trials, BMX/Mountain Cross, Kids Race, and a XC Trail Run. Food vendors and entertainment is being
lined up now. The city is really rolling out the red carpet for us this year. The Trials Event will be Friday night on the Downtown square. This is huge for
our sport!

We're still working on the camping. This race being in the city and on city park land makes it tough for camping. No promises but we're trying to find a more convenient solution. You're right, the pricing was a typo. Expert registration is $35. Greg |

Can anyone briefly describe the XC and Short Track courses? I know what the trails are like. I'm interested in which trails, which direction, etc.
I am also interested in camping, but if I have to drive all the way to Beaver Lake, I might as well just drive home and sleep in my own bed! |

Novice Racers Ride Free at Slaughter Pen Jam! | ||

We've added a class for novice racers at the Slaughter Pen Jam. This is for juniors and adults that have never before participated in a mountain bike race.
It is a great opportunity to come to a fun event, participate, and see what it's all about. There will be awards for top three places in junior male,
female and adult men and women.
There is no charge - just complete registration - a donor is handling the USAC race insurance fee. The race will be about 5 miles, encompassing the part of the race route in "phase 1" the trails to the north of the walking trail only. Come out and have fun! Also - don't think that only "experts" race at mountain bike events. There will be folks with every type of bike and every type of outfit from Lance Armstrong-style lycra to jeans and t-shirts. And even some of the most experienced racers will walk their bikes over some of the rougher rocky sections, and there will be many folks pushing their bikes up some of the steeper climbs. On the "MX" I spoke to P. H. and it sounded like you plan on running two at a time down the freeride track with the berms?? Is there going to be a
qualifying run for start position? Is the MX and BMX the same event? or will the BMX be separate - jumping, leaping and backflips like last year? Any other
specifics that you can speak of?

The plan is to have everyone (by class) run a timetrial. Then bracket the field and have twoxtwo shootout. It runs down through the dirtjump area. We're
not have the slopestyle jumping like last year. I think the mx will turn out to be a pretty exciting event.

We are sorry to report the freeride competition was simply not insurable. It was replaced with a MX / BMX competition. This will be a bracket event and yes their will be a timed qualifying run. Riders will then be placed in the double elimination bracket based on qualifying time. Then it's on! The event will be separated into 20" BMX and 26" MX classes. Both BMX and MX races will be double elimination. |

I have not raced in a mountain bike race, but have been training quite extensive (at Slaughterpen) the past couple months and have been an avid runner.
What's the difference between the Novice and Amateur races besides the cost? I really do want to compete, but if Amateur is over my head then....

The way I read it... Novice is 1st timers race. i.e. potentially someone quite inexperienced with mtb and fitness.
Ride this Saturday with the trail crew and see how you stack up - then decide.
