Cedar Glades Singlespeed gearing |
Lead | |
|
Hi all from Michigan. I am planning to visit my brother in Little Rock this March and try out the Spa City 6 hour. From the trail description, it looks like
this trail may be well suited to a singlespeed. I ride a rigid 29'er and I was hoping for some feedback from the singlespeeders in the audience regarding
this race as well as the trail and gearing options.
Thanks, Craig |

Cedar Glades is a great single speed trail. I use 32-18 gearing on a rigid 29er there.

Cedar Glades Singlespeed gearing question | ||
LSRobert wrote: Awesome LS. I guess my question is this. Does this gearing allow you to clear most climbs and still keep you from spinning out on the flats? My guess is the trail flows well and has few technical features which favor a rigid SS set-up. Am I close? I am sure I will get in a pre-ride and figure it all out. |

Hello Michigan. I ride cedar glades weekly on my SS. I have used 34-20 in the past, but recently went to 34-19. This allows for better speed on flats and down
hill. I don't think any of the climbs are impossible with this gearing. However, some climbs are a little long and require LUNGS. One climb is a set of
switchbacks that is approx. 4/10 mile at 7-8%. We have some other shorter climbs at 11-12%. If you are going to guess wrong, I would guess a little harder
because most of the course is fast. Tony

Thanks Spa Town. Great info! Looking forward to Spring and riding some sweet Arkansas singletrack. It's getting kinda hard to ride around here now. Here
is a shot of my buddy Dan after our ride yesterday.
