The website is still being updated, so check back for updates. The race is Sunday, August 3 in Lincoln, AR. It is a challenging 24-mile loop. The following link also contains a map of the course. Race day registration is $45. The forecast is hot, but there will be clear skies! Also Team Lewis & Clark / Raymond James & Assoc. has designated a minimum of 10% of net race proceeds to support hydration and heat illness prevention through the Kendrick Fincher Memorial Foundation. As an arkie have enjoyed the State RR Champs the past two years and was looking forward to it this year, until I saw the start time which killed it for me. Masters at 10:20 and building to a 100+ heat index, predictable in early Aug ? Contributing to Heat Injury PREVENTION ? LOL, had to read that twice to make sure it wasn't a spoof. I'm sure well intentioned so good luck with the event, I'll be contributing to my own heat illness prevention by riding a bit earlier that day and saving 8 hrs of driving ! Maybe some thought might go into an earlier start next year. Not a gripe, just thought some feedback might be helpful if encouraging participation is a concern. Have a good one. Rick

Posts: 43 (08/01/08 06:09:15) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	FYI - The movement towards later start times for one day events is gaining momentum and will continue to do so for one reason - A 10am start times allows people with a 3+ hour drive to come to the event without having to have a hotel expense. If ANY one day event started at 8am, for example, in Northwest Arkansas, you virtually eliminate the Little Rock, Tulsa, OKC and Springfield crowd. As a promoter you must do what will insure maximum entrants. As far as the heat goes, consider it one of the factors of becoming a champion. I know you are laughing right now, but seriously, these are all the same conditions your competitors will have also. Look at the Tour of Kansas City next weekend: 100+ temps, late start times = full capacity field limits. The heat is just part of it... Ben Upchurch

I guess my friends riding the tour on July 15th with 100+ heat also wanted to bag it and call it quits. Sir, as the kids say these days, "Man Up!" Gents, let me digress... When times get tough even I have to search my soul for answers and knowledge. When I do I often think of my Australian mate, Chopper. This man has shown me the light and given me strength at my toughest moments in life. He is soft spoken and will let you find the answers you are searching for in a gentle way. We did take the heat into consideration, but Ben is right. If we had this race at 7 or 8am, it would only be folks from NWA and maybe those that could afford hotels. Today, it cost more to drive to a race than it does for lodging. We had to take that into consideration. Trust me, our volunteers and race officials wish it could be cooler but we have to go with what we have. I recall the Carve race to start to season got rave reviews for making it start at noon just for the reason that folks from outside central AR could make it in same day.

Have you been outside lately. This is the ARKANSAS State Championship. We are a southern state, and it is hot here in the summer. If you are not riding in the heat, you are not riding enough.... I hope you and others with similiar concerns change your minds and help make this event a success.

Posts: 2 (03/16/09 13:17:58) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I know this is way past due, and I hate to beat a dead horse, but I want to thank the promotors who put on the State RR this last summer. It was well run, neutral water, awesome course! I would love to see a race on this loop again. However, why race in August? The heat was brutal. The P123 race started in 100+ degree weather. I got heat exhaustion two laps in and had to coast the last lap. It was ridiculous, I have no plans to subject myselft to that type of suffering anytime soon. You can call me a sissy all you want, but by looking at the very lame turn out for the 1-2 and 3 fields compared to Hell's Kitchen, NWA Spring Classic and CrossWind that year and the fact that over half the field popped of quit before the last lap. I am not the only one who tought racing in the heat is a bad idea. Yes, this is Arkansas it get's hot in the summer, but I raced in Texas for years where it get's even hotter and the race schedule is way more jammed packed and there are rarely any road races Jun-Aug. And if we are going to race in the heat please start the guys going the longest distance early.

This year it will be on Saturday, June 13. Also note that it is on Saturday and not Sunday. This is to help it line up closer to other road races in the area and get our state champions awarded before Nationals. No guarantees that it will be any cooler (but crossing my fingers). About the heat, the very next weekend last year it was in the 70's and overcast in NWA last year. We don't want to race in 100+ weather (or put on the race in that heat) but last year it was our first year to host the race and we can't predict Arkansas weather far in advance. Thanks for coming out last year! I hope you can make it again.

Posts: 9 (08/08/09 16:53:12) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	my question is how many grand masters were there? was there a time trial Championship? and if so how many men over 55 rode the time trial? the reason I ask is because I was in the time trial championships in illinois and won a gold medal in 1980, This was partly becasue so few riders showed up. I would like to look into getting a liscence and training for nest year if the situation is similar in Arkansas, I woould need also to know who the USCF state representitive is.

At the state TimeTrial championship, there were five participants in the 55-59 age category, and 3 in the 60+ category. As for the USCF rep that would be myself or Bruce Dunn. Also, for some additional training incentive, if you win a championship in Arkansas, you get a state champion jersey (provided you have an annual USCF license). Vinny
